A wonderful place especially Tina, Rose and Yvonne. The owner Calvin is gracious. Highly recommend!
I go here regularly for manicure & pedicure and get excellent service every time. They make sure that I'm happy with the color & Tina has a great eye for nail colors that will suit my skin tone.
Recently, I got the Milbon Japanese Hair Straightening treatment. The 3 hour service involves initial hair wash followed by the treatment applied to the hair, combed, washed & dried. Calvin did a great job, ensuring that my hair were straightened evenly and in a manner that gives them a softer, bouncy look rather than a stiff & starched one. About 8 weeks later, my hair is still straight and tangles much less without needing a blowout or straightening iron.
I went back to try again and had an excellent experience. The star of the salon is LuLu the poodledoodle. Calvin is amazing. Glad I came back.
Very knowledgeable and friendly service.
Stumbled upon this place when I was getting my eyebrows done in the areas and I just found my new go to salon, not just for nails but for EVERYTHING! Never met a kinder more professional staff. They also do fantastic work. I will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you Yvonne and Tina for making my first experience here so wonderful!
I had my haircut done by Yvonne. She is very skilled and likes perfection so she spends time to make sure her work shines. Highly recommended, I was charged $50 for shampoo, haircut and blow dry/iron. I think it was reasonable
I am from out of town but have a terrible habit of picking at my nails... in a city where I don't have my go-to salon, I went out on a limb got a mani/pedi here because I desperately needed help. The people were super nice, had multiple regulars in and out in the 1.5 hours I was there, they didn't rush and took time to help heal my beat up cuticles. Thank you, Tina and team!
Great service and very friendly people! I have been here twice now and this place has consistently delivered results. The first time, I went in for a hairstyle and nails. The lady didn't ask me what I wanted, but i let her know that I was prepping for a big social gathering that I was going to- about an hour later, after complete shampoo, blowdrying, and styling, my hair (which is about medium length) looked great. Following the hair-do (which took about 45 minutes) was my mani/pedi combo. I got a french mani/pedi combo (basic is $38, and with french, it's an extra $10)- the women working on me did an amazing job...even though it's a little more pricey compared to the prices my friends pay in the city, this was worth the extra bucks for me...I came out looking and more importantly, feeling fabulous....this past thursday, I went in for the second time and got another mani/pedi combo...this time was as well done as last time (took a little less time-maybe about an hour and a half), and I got french on my hands and color on my toes (total came to $43, plus a generous tip since there were two people working on me)...all in all, this was a great find and I am happy I just walked in there one day!
Very good place to take your kids for a haircut. My 7 year old daughter loves going here, and her haircut always looks great. The price is a good value, in the $15 to $20 range (we pay $5 extra for the shampoo and blow-dry; my daughter appreciates the pampering). Easy to get an appointment. Friendly and calm environment.
I love this place. The people are so friendly and they really take care of you. Great for spa mani and pedi's (comfy, leather, massage chairs), waxing, and even hair services. They are also great at gels and removing stubborn ingrown nails. I was once in pain for weeks with ingrowns from a pedi gone wrong (from another salon), they fixed me, and I have been pain free ever since.
I still think that this place is the best kept secret in the bay area. Yvvone is a top stylist and $35 for an amazing head turning cut and style... every single time I leave the salon, someone asks me where I get my hair cut. The mani/pedi is $40 and they do a fantastic job. Very relaxing. They do treat you like family. I rarely have an appointment just walk in. I love this place and.
I have been a customer of Tina's since 1999, and was thrilled when she opened her salon in Menlo Park, where I work. She is always professional and friendly and the manicure is perfect. It is clean and beautifully decorated with a relaxing ambiance, the perfect place to unwind. Thanks Calvin and Tina.
We LOVE Calvin and Tina (and the others as well). We first ventured in here over 2 years ago after moving to Menlo Park, and we've been loyal customers ever since. Tina waxes my eyebrows and does a beautiful job. (I used to go to the Red Door, and this is much cheaper and just as good!) Calvin cuts my husband's and kids' hair. He is meticulous and really puts his all into his work. The staff are amazingly friendly, always remember their customers' names, and run a very professional business.
I'm shocked by the negative reviews -- can't say a bad thing about this place!
I was in the area and was looking for a quick place to drop in for a crew cut before going back to work. I didn't have an appointment but the Salon was still very accommodating and the service was splendid.
Everyone was super friendly, I felt like a long time customer even though it was my first time there. Professional services without the high Salon price.
I took my girlfriend here once a month for the past 2 years and she never complain about having a bad mani/pedi. The people are very pro about what they do, the store is nice and clean. They even use the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze to take out the Acrylic smell. I give it 4 Stars because it is far from my place. Don't be a fool about the bad reviewed go and try it for yourself.
Great place to get acrylic nails done! Tina's attention to detail is great. Pedicures are great to - good color selection and flowers are super intricate. Everyone is so nice here. To be on the safe side call for an app.
Love this salon - have been going there for 3 years now and it's probably the best kept secret in the area. I would have expected this to be all the time booked with long waiting lists if it was in NYC or Boston...
For an excellent hair cut and color, ask for Yvonne - she is exceptional, I am always getting compliments for the color and hair style. Make sure you make an appointment!
I also love it that I can go almost any time for a manicure and pedicure and never have to wait more than 5 minutes. I always asked for Vivian, but all her coworkers do an excellent job.
It's also probably one of the friendliest places I have ever been to in the Bay Area - they make a special effort to remember their customer's names and make your experience there pleasant.
Overall a great experience, I strongly recommend it.
Yvonne - the best. Fantastic hair stylist.
I went to the Park Avenue Beauty Salon as a try - because as a girl, I like to spoil myself on days here and there. There are MANY things I appreciated from this place:
The location is faboulous. I wanted to walk around with my nails done and hair -cut. It's such a cute little downtown place in Menlo Park and the spa is reasonably visible.
One of the most important things I have to say about this spa that I really, really liked was the cleanliness about everything. Products and items are thoroughly santized and cleaned before they use them. It's obvious they invest much time, effort, and money one making sure their products are not grundgy and used to its very last bit. The floor and store as a whole is very clean and welcoming. Fortunately, it does not have the horrific smell of nail polish and acrylic gel.
Great Job/ Professional:
I had a mani, pedi, and facial done here, and it was the best treat I could have given myself! First off, the mani was great and relaxing and fast (since I had to be somewhere at a certain time) and it still looks good with my clumsy carelessness towards my nails just right after getting them done. My pedi was also amazing. They massage chair and spa treatment was just top of the line and relaxing. They did a good job cleaning up my cuticles and ect. and making my feet look clean and healthy. Last but not least, the facial was amazing! It was my first time every, so everything Tina (the owner) was doing was bizarre and new for me. I felt so relaxed and at ease. After the facial, my face felt and looked so much better. She also helped me with tips on how to take care of my face.
Overall, I loved this place. Make and appointment and be ready to be pampered! Plus, the employees and owners are so professional and kind.
By the way, when nail specialists or any type of specialist in the beauty world, mentions that you might need something to be done - you gotta be light hearted about the coments. In addition, acrylics are bad for you nails to begin with. They are designed to be glued to your natural nail therefore ripping the natural surface of your orignial nail.
I have no idea where these bad reviews are coming from. I think it';s important to make an appt. so that you aren't held back or waiting for service.
calvin is the best when it comes to hair cuts!!
place is very clean and nice staff.
Calvin is the man.
Came in here when Santa Cruz Barber Shop was closed. Woman did a servicable cut, certainly did it fast, but was only OK. I had told her I wanted it fast and she did that! So not sure if the issue is mine or hers. Anyway, they will barber men's hair just fine and for the kind-of-normal cheap $20 with tip price.
I'm loving my new ombr done by Bui Thi! shes real professional and is also super nice! Also got my nails done and managed (somehow) to fit in an extra back massage by Traci, who did a great job - my back feels great after weeks of pain! Thank you guys it was my First here time and def not the last
I have been going to Park Ave ever since I moved to Menlo Park seven years ago. The customer service is consistently excellent. They offer many services however my favorites are pedicures because they have state of the art chairs. My husband enjoys having Calvin cut his hair and Yvonne works wonders with my 12 year old daughter's hair for special occasion up dos and custom styles. Calvin & Tina are devoted to providing their clients with a fabulous experience every time!
I took my eight nervous eight year old in on a busy Sunday. They did a perfect job of getting her in the seat and doing the piercing quickly before she changed her mind. It was "pain free"according to her. The salon was clean and the staff was professional. The total cost was only $25 for the piercing and earrings. I highly recommend the salons piercing services.
Not sure where all the bad reviews are coming from. Calvin and his wife Tina own this place and are the nicest people. I've gone to fancy SF salons in the past and spent $80+ a cut. After being desperate one afternoon I gave them a chance and they spent the same time for a fraction of the cost. $20 for guy + $5 wash...to get all the hair out. I would give these guys a shot if you have not been before as the place is very clean and the people are very nice.
I have been going to the salon for a couple of years now. I love the haircuts that Calvin and his team give to my daughter and myself. Reasonably priced and very friendly.
Came here on my birthday and got a pedicure, which I never do. They treated me like a queen. Everything was so clean. Drained tubs, gave me a hot towel wrap on the legs, massage, did a great job on the nails and the polish is only now beginning to chip, almost a month later. Wish I could do this all the time! Thanks gals!
PS: I think my manicurist's name was CIndy. She was awesome.
Just got the best mani/pedi of my entire life. I was a walk-in and the only customer for most of the time I was there and completely doted on by everyone. The atmosphere is clean and light and lovely - including a beautiful mural on the wall of local scenery - a refreshing break from the Costco art you usually see in most salons. Everyone was very friendly and the place smelled nice (a lot of salons stink to high heaven of solvents). Yvonne did the pedicure and worked on my callouses as if her life depended on it. I went in with dry, cracked feet and came home with feet like a newborn babe! Wow! I didn't catch the name of the woman who gave me my manicure, but she was wonderful as well. I don't go in for fancy manicures (at most, I'll go for a French manicure), so, today, I just asked for a file and buff. She did a great job and lingered on my hand and arm massage. Oh! Let's not forget their awesome massage chairs! My previous favorite salon in Mountain View got rid of their massage chairs, and that's half the reason I get a pedicure! Park Avenue's massage chairs have an amazing Back Stretch option I could experience all day. In short: great work, lovely atmosphere, amazing people.
Yvonne gave me an excellent, flattering haircut during my first visit yesterday; no surprise. Yvonne is precise, efficient, and puts the "beauty" in Park Avenue Beauty Salon. $40 for deluxe results.
The week prior, I asked a stranger waiting in line next to me at Costco where she got her fantastic hair cut. She laughed and said she gets asked that question almost every time she leaves her house. "Yvonne at Park Avenue in Menlo Park."
She said now her husband goes there, as do her kids, local relatives and all her friends. Not to mention the strangers like me who question her, "Where do you get . . . ?"
Calvin, who answered the phone when I called for an appointment with Yvonne, reassured me that although I would be getting my hair cut in a place that also does mani-pedis, that I would not be bothered by fumes. That seemed counter-intuitive, but remembering that Costco shopper's great cut, it was worth checking out for myself. Am so glad I did.
Amazingly, even with chemical sensitivity, I was fine in the shop. Calvin explained they have a great vent system, plus do not use toxic smelling acrylic polishes.
Yvonne said the salon is often very full Friday through Sunday, so if common hair salon fumes are an issue, to come on a much less crowded weekday.
I agree that Yvonne's haircuts are precision made! And for parents trying to get their kids' hair cut somewhere other than those manic overpriced bells-and-whistles kids' establishments, one of the BIG secrets at Park Avenue is that Yvonne is an expert children's hair stylist. I have been bringing my 9-year old son to her since he was 1 after a traumatic experience elsewhere and he won't have anyone else. He is very sensitive and now has all kinds of special requests -- long here, short there -- and she is consistently attentive to his needs and vision, and he comes out happy every time. For my money, that's worth more than they actually charge (which is low).
I've tried out many different salons for mani/pedis and stumbled into this one while in the area- BEST decision. Tina was welcoming and friendly, the manicure was one of the best I've ever had- perfect shaping and took excellent care of all the dead skin. They were even patient with me choosing a color, and gave advice when I asked but weren't pushy at all. They even tried on 5 colors on my nails without me asking just to make sure I picked a shade I liked! The pricing was lower than others and completely fair, and the quality was exceptional. I made a second appt that day and am happy I've found a consistent salon!
I've switched to this salon as my regular hairstylist Julie who switched from Sunnyvale is now working here. She gives by far the BEST haircut that I've ever gotten in my entire life. She takes almost 1 hour , paying attention to detail and making sure that the cut is perfect....and the final result.....Perfect.
This place is perfect, make sure you get a haircut from the guy Calvin, he has great style when cutting your hair but still makes it look good. He gave me a great haircut!
I called before I walked in and they took me right away. My manicurist was Jessica. She was super friendly and talkative. I appreciated how meticulously she painted all the edges and tips of my nails. Perfect shellac manicure. She also was very time conscientious, which I appreciated since I was on a work break. Definitely will go back again. :)
I came here because my hairstylist Julie changed salons. Julie is absolutely great! So sweet and she takes her time on my hair. I love how she spends so much time on blow drying my hair that it feels like a blowout. She is always so excited about her work! Always complimenting, it is really great!
About the actual salon: the waiting area is a little crowded, but it wasn't super busy when I was there. Their prices are a little expensive so I look at it as more of a treat yourself salon. I didn't get my nails done or anything so I can't really say anything else about it.
My wife loves this place and her hair stylist that works here - Julie. We know Julie from another salon she used to work before. She is super sweet nice and gives you very honest advice. She honestly cares about your hair and will not recommend something if she thinks won't look good.. The owner Calvin is a pretty kool guy and fun to talk to. Overall compared to other saloons the environment is so friendly nice and comforting.
I found this shop during a random google search for salons that do ear piercings. I spoke with Tina, the manager, and she told me to come right in.
From the outside this shop looks like it may be a beauty supply but it's actually a full service beauty salon, including ear piercing. Tina was so sweet when I go there. I explained to her that I needed 4 more piercings to match my right ear piercings. I emphasized that I wanted them as identical as possible (I'm a bit OCD in that department). She has a ton of starter studs to choose from which was fun! She lined them up very even and than 1, 2, 3, 4 = presto, all done. Ear piercings are quick. Obviously salons use the stud gun method (not the most hygienic method but you get what you get) and that's what I wanted this time around. Piercings are $25 for a pair so you get 2 earrings + both piercings done for that price. Mine came to $50, no tax, for 2 pairs and I gave her a $10 tip.
I inquired about other services before I left to get a better idea of what her salon offers - hair, skin, nails, ear piercings, waxing, eyelash extensions, etc. A mani/pedi set is $50 and they have really nice chairs.
Convenient location across from Stacks but parking is hard. You are lucky if you get street parking on Santa Cruz Ave. in general so be prepared to park the public parking lots and walk.
Side note: a few people called and requested cuts with a man named Calvin who was not in. He seems popular for haircuts :)
Dropped in here on a whim after reading a few reviews. I'm from Oklahoma and was in the area for a meeting. I was seen pretty quickly despite not having an appointment. They are really nice.
Julie trimmed my hair and waxed my brows. She cut my hair expertly and my hair is long curly and crazy. Many times when a new person cuts my hair it looks awful, but she did it perfectly!
My eyebrows looked perfect as well. I was very pleased.
Love this place!
Calvin has been working on my hair for years now and I love it. My hair is so smooth and healthier everytime I go visit him!
I've done waxing and manis and pedis they are all great:)
Happy to have a business like this in the peninsula...
(girl speaking) this place has friendly workers and offers hair cutting, styling and nails. it's located downtown so parking is a little hard to find..but i highly recommend you to come in if you're taking a stroll down town. they are decent in pricing and are very careful with your nails..don't hesitate to tell them what you think they did wrong cuz they'll fix it upon asking.
